13 and 14-year-old boys

Through our support for the purchase of the necessary surgical equipment, our collaboration with the Surgical Ward of the children’s hospital in Novisad led to surgery on two Serbian boys, aged 13 and 14, suffering from “pectus excavatum”, operated using the Nuss procedure (application of a metal bar under the chest via thoratoscopy). It is a less-invasive procedure, therefore it is much more tolerated by the body and more effective than those used in the past.
On the occasion, Doctor Jurgen Schleef – member of the Scientific Committee of our Association – held a theoretical and practical lesson to local surgeons and paramedic staff on mini-invasive procedures to correct the “pectus excavatum”.
If other similar surgeries will be needed, we will fund them.
