P. -15 years old

P. is a 15-year-old Serbian boy who was perfectly healthy until recently. One month ago he was hospitalized at the Belgrade hospital following a severe, sudden dilated cardiomyopathy associated to cardiac failure.
The seriousness of the pathology meant that P.’s only chance to survive was given by a heart transplant.
We transfered him at once to the Vienna hospital, where a compatible heart was available.
The operation was successful, after a few days P. was able to breathe autonomously. He left the intensive care ward one week later. Now he is fine, he will soon be discharged from the hospital. He has a new heart that will allow him to live a normal life, even if he will have to take anti-rejection drugs for all his life.
